Professional ePortfolio

Students are encouraged to prepare a Professional e-Portfolio.

The Professional e-Portfolio may contian previous work from the program or any additional information that you would like to include. The goal of the Professional e-Portfolio is to present an academic picture of you to a potential employer and/or to decument your professional development through the SIRLS program and as you persue your career.

Your professional e-Portfolio consists of web space on a server provided by the College of Socail and Behavioral Sciences (SBS). The SBS server is used instead of your u.arizona.edu web space to provide longevity to your e-Portfolio. You will be able to access and change your e-Portfolio after graduation. You may learn more about working with your ePortfolio by clicking on the Working with your e-Portfolio link under Resources in the Navigation bar to the left.

What your professional e-Portfolio is:

  1. It is a web-based electronic tool to save and access professional and academic information about you.
  2. It is a way that you can express key points in your curriculum and learning.
  3. It is a place to show your career readiness, leadership, academic progress, social responsibility, technology literacy, reasoning ability, and communication skills.
  4. It is a place to keep the following information:
    1. resume
    2. key research papers, essays, academic journal entries, and the like
    3. a running record of your volunteer and community service, abstracts of your ongoing research, your involvement in creative activities, etc.
    4. work in key classes, seminars, etc.
    5. self-assessment
    6. a map of your career plan and the steps you plan to take to reach your goal

What it is not:

  1. It is not a personal web page that includes information other than professional and academic material.
  2. It is not the official record of your academic record, which is only available through means designated by the Office of the Registrar.
  3. It is not the place to store all your academic work in an electronic format.

More information on preparing a professional portfolio will be available during the spring 2006 semester.
