Structure for Creation of e-Portfolios
Students will create a homepage in IRLS 504, residing on the SBS server. Assistance on working with your e-Portfolio can be found in the "Setting up your portfolio" section.
The basic structure of the SIRLS e-Portfolio can be seen in Figure 1. The structure consists of an Introduction (index) page and three main components: SIRLS Reflections, Web pages for Specific Courses , and Professional e-Portfolio.
The Introduction page, at a minimum contains your name, contact information (email) and a brief biographical statement, and your career interests and professional goals.
The SIRLS Reflections component of the e-Portfolio contains
- reflections on each of the SIRLS competencies
- Professional Development Reports,
- a mid-career reflection, and
- a final reflection.
You will be provided with specific requirements for each sub-section. For the Competency Reflections, you will create a reflection on each of the competencies using assignments and experiences you obtain in the program. During your career you will participate in at least ten professional development opportunities. You will provide a synopsis of ten of these opportunities in the Professional Development Reports section of your e-Portfolio. Each report will contain a “Demonstration of learning” and a “Reflection on what you learned.”
Your mid-career and final reflection will be a culmination of your learning to that point and contain an overall reflection on the your mastery of the competencies to that point.
The Course Related Materials component consists of web space that is available for you to use for course assignments that require a web presence (i.e. web pages for specific SIRLS courses, examples of work, etc.).
The Professional e-Portfolio space is stored in the same web space as your Course Related Materials and may be used to create a portfolio for potential employers. You may wish to tailor your professional portfolio and create different views of your portfolio based on where you are applying.
The SIRLS program has defined the format for the SIRLS Reflection component and students are expected to follow this format. However, students are encouraged to express their creativity in the Course Related Materials and Professional e-Portfolio components.
